Bhutanese Refugees
Over the past
two years, the Village has helped to resettle close to
200 Bhutanese refugees arriving into the United States to live in Las
Vegas. Many have spent the
past 18 years of their lives living in refugee camps in Nepal after
being exiled from their native country of Bhutan. Though we are not an
official government agency, the Village has, out
of its own resources, provided refugees with food, shelter,
finances, household items, furniture and most importantly, guidance,
friendship and community as they try to survive and acclimate into a
foreign
culture.

Whitney
Elementary School At-Risk
Program for Kids
The Village has gladly partnered
with Whitney Elementary School in Las
Vegas, where 85% of the children that attend are considered 'at-risk.'
Many of the children enrolled at Whitney come from homeless,
drug-addicted or immigrant families that live on the margins of society
right here in Las Vegas. Whitney has done an excellent job
in establishing a healthy environment for children to gain stability
and
begin to thrive. This includes a food and clothing bank for the
children's
families, as well as a community job fair, doctor, dental and vision
care for the students. We applaud the efforts of Whitney Elementary
School and their visionary principal, Sheri Gann. The Village has
helped in various volunteer projects such as holiday food baskets,
clothing drives, birthday projects, etc.

currently located in one of the most dangerous and drug-invested areas
